Minister Koca said on his social media account: "Why do children get sick frequently during these weeks? What should be done?" and shared the video of Prof. Dr. Ateş Kara, Pediatric Infectious Diseases Specialist. In the video, Prof. Dr. Kara said:
"Respiratory tract infections are especially seen in the winter months, but they start to be seen especially from September onwards. When children start schools and return to nurseries and kindergartens, their coming together causes them to share the microorganisms, bacteria and viruses they carry with each other. And therefore, when children start schools, they get sick very often in the first days, weeks and especially in the first month."
"We must develop the habit of washing hands among children"
Kara stated that children are exposed to more bacteria and viruses when they go to school compared to being at home and added:
"The most important point here is that we know that this increase is natural when they go to school, but we should also keep in mind that we can prevent at least some of it. When we talk about prevention, we especially mean teaching children to build the habit of washing their hands. We encourage them to take breaks between classes, go to open areas, and ask teachers and students to open the windows of the classrooms ensuring ventilation in order to reduce the number of infections."
