Awards of the scientists were presented by the Chairperson of the Parliament Mr. Binali Yıldırım, Deputy President Mr. Fuat Oktay and Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca.
Awards having the name of Nobel laureate Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar were presented on the first day of the 5th Turkish Medical World Congress in Istanbul. List of the laureates of 2018 Aziz Sancar Science, Encouragement and Service Prizes is as follows: Prof. Dr. Feridun Cahit Tanyel, Prof. Dr. Ertuğrul Kılıç, Assoc. Prof. Sinan Güven, Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Kahraman, Assoc. Prof. Tevfik Tamer Önder and Assistant Prof. Urartu Özgür Şafak Şeker.
Health Minister Dr. Koca: “We are determined to follow multi-sectoral policy in fighting with chronic diseases”
In his inaugural speech, Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca expressed his gratitude and good wishes for the Turkish scientists working in Turkey and abroad.
Concerning the main theme of the Medical World Congress – fighting with chronic disease, Dr. Koca stated that “We are determined to follow multi-sectoral policy in fighting with chronic diseases and to reduce prevalence of many chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetics, COPD, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and malignity.”
Chairperson of the Turkish Parliament Mr. Yıldırım: “Technological development is our main priority in health”
In his speech, Mr. Binali Yıldırım underlined the importance of technological investments in health, reiterated support of the State for universities, research centers and private sector, and made a call to the international organizations to make investments in this field in Turkey. Mr. Yıldırım also added that they would facilitate the procedures for bringing the patents and inventions, to Turkey, in the area of health technologies.
The 5th Turkish Medical World Congress is ongoing
The Turkish Medical World Congress organized under the auspices of Presidency, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and World Health Organization and led by Health Institutes of Turkey (TÜSEB) is bringing together many scientists, health ministers, academicians and health sector stakeholders from all around the world.
Use of new technologies in the management of non-communicable chronic diseases, use of tobacco in different age groups, passive exposure for pregnant women and children, fighting with drug abuse and alcohol consumption, type 1 diabetics, restricting markets targeting children and obesity were discussed in the sessions. The road map and the final evaluations will be published as a statement at the end of the Congress.
