Turkey has extended her hand to deliver healthcare services in 3 continents. Organized in 16 countries so far by the Ministry of Health of Turkey, Health Weeks provided opportunity for 3 thousands 632 operations.
The Turkish doctors have become hope for thousands of patients who could not be treated in their home countries due to impossibilities.
As of 2006, the Turkish Ministry of Health organized 41 Health Weeks in total in Afghanistan, Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, Moldova, Mauritania, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan, Somalia, Djibouti, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Kenya.
Within the framework of the program, healthcare services were provided in the specialties of general surgery, cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, urology, plastic surgery, burn surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, oncology, radiology, otorhinolaryngology, orthopedics, pulmonary medicine and brain surgery.
22 thousands 874 patient consultations, 3 thousands 632 operations and 776 circumcisions were performed, and theoretical and practical trainings were provided for 3 thousands 828 local healthcare professionals. Operations that could not be performed in those countries due to absence of medical equipment or experiences were performed free of charge.
The 42nd Health Week will be organized in Karakalpakstan autonomous region of Uzbekistan between the dates of 1-11 November. Many operations will be performed in Nukus province in the specialties of plastic surgery and gynecology.
Through the health weeks, the Turkish doctors establish strong ties with the local people and healthcare professionals. On the other hand, qualified manpower, medical tourism and medical equipment production capacity of Turkey are also promoted abroad.
