Minister Koca released a statement on his social media account about November 14 World Diabetes Day. Pointing out that diabetes can be controlled if the strategy determined by the doctor is followed, Koca said, “Diabetes has emerged as an increasing public health problem. One in every 10 adults in the world struggles with diabetes.” Stating that the body's ability to regulate blood sugar is impaired in this chronic disease, Koca added “type 1 diabetes can be controlled with daily insulin injections or an insulin pump, while type 2 diabetes may be treated with healthy nutrition, regular exercise and sometimes medication or insulin. At least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity should be done a week. Minister Koca emphasized the importance of regular monitoring of blood sugar levels and constant cooperation with doctor in both cases and said, “Certain measures can reduce the risk of diabetes include adopting a healthy diet, regular physical activity and maintaining a healthy body weight. It is important to avoid processed foods, consume plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. In addition, at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity should be done a week, and smoking and alcohol consumption should be avoided.” Stating that elderly people, people with a family history of diabetes, people with obesity and low physical activity, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases and those using certain medications are in the risk group for diabetes, Koca said: “Individuals in these groups should especially comply with precautions such as regular health check-ups, maintaining ideal body weight, healthy nutrition and regular exercise. Today is World Diabetes Day. Diabetics and those in the risk group should follow the information here, the treatment determined by their doctors and their recommendations.”
