The Vaccination Science Board of the Turkish National Institutes of Health (TUSEB) had its first meeting with Russian scientists for cooperation on COVID-19 vaccine development.
In their meeting on Tuesday, Turkish and Russian health ministers, Dr. Fahrettin Koca and Dr. Mikhail Murashko, agreed upon joining efforts for vaccine and therapeutics development. Scientists from both countries had their first video conference.
The meeting, which was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Health, Prof. Emine Alp Meşe, was attended by the head of and officials from the State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology of Russia (VECTOR). The talks focused on ongoing scientific work on COVID-19 vaccine development.
Deputy Minister Meşe, provided information about vaccine efforts in Turkey and highlighted the importance of strengthening the cooperation. The Russian party delivered two presentations on current COVID-19 vaccine efforts and other vaccine efforts.
TUSEB and VECTOR agreed upon signing a cooperation agreement in the field of healthcare, particularly in vaccine development. The two delegations will meet once again next week.
In Turkey, there are 13 ongoing vaccine projects supported by TUSEB and TUBITAK and 4 centers are conducting animal studies. Russia will kick off clinical studies soon. The two countries will join efforts.
