“Moral Loyalty to the Profession of Medicine Must Continue”

Minister of Health Dr. Fahrettin Koca attended ‘14 March Doctors’ Day’ event organized by University of Health Sciences in Istanbul.

Delivering a speech, Minister Koca stated that he is proud to meet the physicians of the future in the historical place on the occasion of 14 March Doctors’ Day.

Minister Fahrettin Koca noted that following the education gained in this institution, the young people will be assigned to work in all over Türkiye, even in remote places, and they will provide health care services to each individual.

Expressing that all community and society have been going through harsh times and experiencing a global outbreak for 2 years, Koca added that wherever people live, the outbreak is a threat for them. However, underlying that the physicians who have been struggling to risk death are the ones to experience the threat at the utmost, Koca expressed his condolences to the decedent physicians.

The issues on violence in health and the abuse of malpractice suits

Koca noted “this profession and health system has some problems which was impossible to handle during the most severe period of the outbreak and is now handled seriously by giving utmost attention. Violence is one of these problems.”

Mentioning that a symposium was held yesterday with the participation of The Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ and high-level members of judiciary, Koca stated that he had an insistent and precise request on the protection of rights and remedies at the symposium.

Minister Koca also added:

“At the symposium, the abuse of malpractice suits that concerns our profession closely is on the agenda. The Minister of Justice summarized: ‘the physicians will be protected like the judges.’ I am telling you that this is a revolution and no one will be against it.”

“I really care about keeping our moral loyalty to the medicine”

Minister Koca said “I really care about the prestige of the profession of medicine, and I do not want it to incur any damage with the loss of faith. I really care about keeping our moral loyalty to the medicine. I would like these bright physicians to serve the people of our country. I am doing my best and I will keep doing it.”

Koca congratulated 14 March Doctors’ Day of colleagues and the to-be physicians.

The Rector of University of Health Sciences mentioned the studies of the university up-to-date and their targets.

During the programme, the video on the history of the Mekteb-i Tıbbiyye-i Şahane – a historical campus in Istanbul - was presented and the students of medicine delivered a speech.
