The baby, who was born with a disease that caused permanent vision loss due to premature birth, was saved from being blind with a rare eye surgery. We wish baby Hamza a good and long life with his family and congratulate our team.”

It was determined that there was a problem in the eye of 35-day-old Hamza Arslan due to premature birth. The baby, who was brought to Ankara from Batman by air ambulance, was saved from the risk of blindness thanks to a rare eye surgery.

Diagnosis at first examination

35-day-old baby Hamza, brought to Ankara from Batman by air ambulance belonging to the Ministry of Health, underwent vitrectomy surgery at Gazi University Medical Faculty Hospital. The little baby was saved from the risk of blindness thanks to a rare eye surgery.

Dr. Hüseyin Baran Özdemir, who performed the surgery, stated that they diagnosed the disease in the baby's eye at an advanced stage and said "The diagnosis was made at the first eye examination. He was referred instantly and we performed a successful surgery." Emphasizing that eye examinations should not be neglected for newborns, Özdemir said, "Permanent blindness can occur if ROP disease is not intervened in a timely manner.

“He would have gone blind if he had been late”

Fazilet Arslan (19), mother of baby Hamza, stated that she had a very risky and difficult pregnancy and said: "My baby was born prematurely, it was said that he wouldn't survive. I would like to thank very much to our state and our doctors. My baby could have gone blind if it had been delayed, but thankfully he has recovered."
