Co-chaired by Vice President of the Republic of Turkey Fuat Oktay and Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin, the 11th Session of Turkey-Kazakhstan Joint Economic Commission Meeting took place in Istanbul.
Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca, Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan, Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Mehmet Cahit Turan were also present at the meeting during which a series of economic agreements were signed between the two countries.
On margin of the 11th Session of the Joint Economic Commission, Turkey-Kazakhstan Business Forum was organized which brought the Turkish and Kazakh businesspeople together.
"We have cooperation opportunities in numerous areas such as high-technology, transportation, agriculture, and energy. These cooperation opportunities should be used in a win-win framework. Kazakhstan has a strategic location that connects Central Asia and international markets through the Caspian Sea.
We are making efforts for establishing mechanisms, such as the business forum, which gather two countries' business circles” said Fuat Oktay.
Referring to the Turkish economy, he noted Turkey ranked 33rd in the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business report this year, and the country remains to be an attraction center. Bilateral trade of the two countries exceeded $2.8 billion in 2018, up 18% on an annual basis, he said, adding that this rise motivates countries to reach the bilateral target of $10 billion.
Oktay also invited the Turkish and Kazakh business people to invest in both countries and make further cooperation.
In his speech, Dr. Fahrettin Koca underlined that “Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Health Investments was signed on 15 October 2019 in Nur-Sultan, and also a Memorandum of Understanding between the Health Development Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan and International Health Services Inc. (USHAŞ) was signed on 30 October 2019.
“We aim to improve cooperation in the field of health system strengthening, public health, health IT, hospital management, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, health tourism, organ, tissue and bone marrow transplantations, health infrastructure planning, service procurements, health investments, artificial intelligence in health and individualized medicine.
We will also appoint a Health Advisor to the Turkish Embassy in Nur-Sultan and open an USHAŞ office in Nur-Sultan for further development of our coperation” added Dr. Koca.
