Director General of Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development Waleed Abdul Mohsin Al-Wohaib, Islamic Development Bank Saleh Jelassi Turkey Director and representatives of Turkey Regional Office visited the Deputy Minister Prof. Dr. Emine Alp Meşe in the Ministry of Health.
Turkey is one of the leading partners of Alliance to Fight Avoidable Blindness (AFAB) and the Alliance is established in leadership of Islamic Development Bank and Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development to fight avoidable blindness and related cataract problems, one of the foremost health challenges in Africa.
The Alliance aims at providing free of charge ophthalmologic screening and cataract surgeries are planned for people who cannot access to health services in 13 African countries (Burkina Faso, Chad, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Mozambique, Mauritania, Comoros, Niger, Somalia and Togo).
The first phase of the project was completed between 2008 and 2015 and the second phase is led by the Ministry of Health of Turkey.
A roadmap was agreed regarding health projects to be implemented in Africa within the collaboration between the Ministry of Health of Turkey and AFAB. Stakeholder institutions, roles and contributions of these stakeholders were among the discussion points.
