Istanbul Başakşehir City Hospital commissioning and domestically-produced ventilator delivery ceremony was held with the participation of the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan via video conference. Minister of Health, Dr. Fahrettin Koca, also delivered a speech at the ceremony.
Koca said: "The building area of the hospital is 145 thousand square meters. Total indoor area is 1 million 21 thousand square meters. There is a variety of logistical facilities in the hospital with a medical area of 304 thousand square meters. In total, there are 725 examination rooms and 2682 patient beds. Each of these beds can also be used as intensive care beds, if needed."
"Surveillance carried out with 3466 cameras"
Pointing out that the hospital was equipped with a fully-automated smart building system, Koca added: "In the campus there are bike paths, car parks and hybrid vehicle charging units and the buildings are energy efficient and eco-friendly. When we also commission Sancaktepe City Hospital after Başakşehir City Hospital, Istanbul, which is strategically located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, will become a leading city in terms of healthcare infrastructure.
Koca also added that the whole campus would be surveilled using 3466 full HD and night vision cameras.
Koca mentioned that Başakşehir City Hospital was home to 8 different specialty hospitals, namely general, pediatric, orthopedic, cardiovascular surgery, oncology, physical therapy and rehabilitation and psychiatry.
Noting that Başakşehir City Hospital would be fully operational by mid-May, Koca said: "Today, we are commissioning inpatient units of OB/GYN and pediatric hospitals, which will be used as a pandemic hospital. Patients will not be directly examined here, but rather will be transferred from within the city by emergency services."
"Each patient room can also be used as an intensive care room"
Koca noted that each patient room could also be used as an intensive care room with certain equipment, as in other city hospitals, Koca added: "We have tomography and x-ray devices ready to be used at the emergency imaging center. The hospital is equipped with the state-of-the-art medical imaging devices. There are 7 tomography devices and 7 MR devices, in total. Including echocardiography machine, there are 24 ultrasound devices. There are also 4 PET-CT and SPECT/CT devices, which are mostly used for diagnosing cancer. When fully operational, this hospital will offer services using state of the art technology in both diagnostics and treatment."
"A 60-bed emergency room"
Koca said: "The laboratory, which was established during the pandemic, is able to run all the necessary tests and examinations. In addition, the blood transfusion center, which is of vital importance for us during this time, is also complete. This center can prepare blood products 24/7. I would like to underline the fact that this center has the necessary infrastructure to produce immune plasma for COVID-19 patients."
Providing information about emergency bed capacity, Koca added: "We have 60 beds in the emergency room."
"155 intensive care beds will ready to use"
"Right now, 155 out of 455 intensive care beds are in service" said Koca and added that all of these rooms were equipped with a ventilator.
