Many health ministers and high-level health directors came together in Istanbul to find solution for the public health emergencies of Europe and lay down a roadmap.
The meeting of 12-14 February 2018 hosted by the WHO (World Health Organization) will focus on such agenda items as regional initiatives concerning preparedness for public health emergencies and response, and steps to be made for 2023.
Health emergencies arising from natural disasters, epidemics and conflicts and many other reasons, and other problems that threaten human lives will be discussed.
In her inaugural speech, Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Emine Alp Meşe said that decision-makers are not only responsible to their own citizens but also all humankind due to transboundary nature of the public health emergencies. It is not only a matter of security but an issue requiring global solidarity, and Prof. Alp Meşe underlined that all states and international organizations should act together to find a solution considering the scale of the problem and the common threat perception. “Turkey stands out in response to public health emergencies in line with its humanitarian and active foreign policy targets, and provides guidance and support for the WHO in this matter” added Deputy Minister.
Following the opening of the event, Prof. Alp Meşe chaired the session concerning Development of Health Emergency Preparedness and Response in European Region.
Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca will also attend the meeting on the 14th February.
Health Minister Dr. Koca will meet with guest ministers and WHO Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab for development of bilateral cooperation.
