Minister of Health, Dr. Fahrettin Koca had a video conference with the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Dr. Mikhail Murashko. Ministers decided to join efforts to develop a vaccine for COVID-19 and clinical studies.
Turkey and Russia kick off cooperation efforts to develop a vaccine for COVID-19. Ministers agreed on exchanging experiences and cooperating on clinical studies on medication and vaccine development. Scientific Committee of the Vaccine Institute of the Turkish Center of Health Institutes and Russian scientists will have their first meeting on Thursday. After that, scientists of the two countries will engage in joint efforts for vaccine development.
Minister Koca noted that Turkey's success was the result of a treatment algorithm different than of WHO. Pointing out that case and death numbers were going down, Koca also said that the number of recovered patients had reached to 130 thousand, the pandemic had been contained and the normalization process had been kicked off as of June 1.
Adding that 22 centers in Turkey were working on the COVID-19 vaccine and 4 centers were conducting animal studies, Koca continued,
"I think the synergy created between the scientists of the two countries sharing the same geography is very valuable. I would like to emphasize once again that we are ready for exchanging experiences and cooperation on treatment and vaccine development."
Two ministers reached agreed on meeting regularly and joining efforts on treatment and vaccine development.
