'One Health Day Event' was jointly held by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization to draw attention to the importance of the 'one health' concept.
Senior representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, WHO and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) participated in the event. "One health is a concept aiming to create the most ideal ecosystem for health”
Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Sabahattin Aydın delivered a speech and stressed the importance of the one health concept.
Aydın added:“In fact, although it seems to be focused on human health, animal health, food and the environment at first glance, ‘one health’ has reminded us that there is a need for a broader perspective, especially during the pandemic. An ecosystem refers to the interaction of living and inanimate factors in the environment in which an organism resides, and to the interaction necessary to achieve sustainable life. In fact, from this point of view, ‘one health’ can be considered as a concept aiming to create the most ideal ecosystem for health. This approach requires not only the sectors dealing with human health and animal health, but also many more sectors to be integrated into this concept.”
"Other disciplines should also prioritize health"
Noting that different disciplines should work together when it comes to health, Aydın added: "One health refers to the joint work of different disciplines. Combined with climate change, one health should also include the industry, production, and international trade. It was seen that intellectual property should be discussed again, how much these borders can be protected, international agreements do not create as strong ties as they are thought, countries do not care about these agreements when they are dealing with their own health. While solidarity was cherished in some countries, it weakened in others."
