Minister of Health, Dr. Fahrettin Koca, had a video conference with the World Health Organization's Regional Director for Europe, Dr. Hans Kluge. Kluge commended Turkey's response efforts against COVID-19 and for its international solidarity and leadership.
In the meeting, the two parties exchanged views on the number of cases and recovered patients in Turkey, Turkey's treatment algorithm and normalization efforts. Pointing out Turkey's close cooperation with WHO from the start, Koca said:
"Turkey has made it clear that it has successfully managed the 3T process, testing, tracing and treatment. As you are following closely, the numbers reflect this success. As the world is grappling with high mortality in elderly, Turkey has been able to keep this rate low thanks to effective treatment methods."
Noting that Turkey's successful response against COVID-19 must be published as a document, WHO Regional Director for Europe Kluge continued: "I would like to underline the importance of Turkey as an ally of WHO and also geopolitically for WHO Europe. Together with your team of experts, we would be glad to document Turkey's great experience in COVID-19 response."
Mr. Kluge continued:"Ministers of health of Turkic Council, which was held two weeks ago, are telling me how much they appreciate Turkey's solidarity. Thank you so much for this great example of international solidarity and leadership. I would like to emphasize another issue very important to WHO. Please allow me to commend you for extending the universal health coverage to Syrian refugees in Turkey and on the other side of the border."
