Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca received the representatives of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and US-Turkey Business Council at Bilkent Campus of the Ministry. The 15-person delegation headed by Director-General of U.S. Chamber of Commerce included representatives from international technology, medicine and medical equipment companies.
Health Minister Dr. Koca pointed out that “We do not want to continue being a country where only chemical medicines are produced or packed. We want to produce new-tech medicines and biologic products.”
Underlining that Turkey is outsourcing 54% of medicines and almost 100% of medical equipment, Dr. Koca stated that “This is not sustainable for Turkey and we would like to establish strategic partnerships with the countries having such technology.”
“We target domestic production of medicines and medical devices”
Health Minister further added that “We target establishment of production facilities within the country, in strategic partnership, meeting needs of the domestic market and the surrounding external markets from those facilities, and in short production of high-tech medicines and medical equipment in Turkey.
Sale of the well-quality and cost-effective products manufactured at these facilities to the emerging markets, and establishing partnership in a model beneficial for both sides would be much better.” Dr. Koca also mentioned about importance of know-how transfer, R&D activities, and design of new and more developed products at these facilities.
