Gala Dinner and Award Ceremony of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Congress organized under the auspices of the Presidency took place with the participation of the First Lady H.E. Emine Erdoğan and Health Minister Dr. Ahmet Demircan.
During his speech, Dr. Ahmet Dermican underlined importance of the 1st International Traditional Medicine Congress organized under the auspices of H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and under leadership of the First Lady H.E. Emine Erdoğan.
Health Minister Dr. Ahmet Demircan stated that “The humankind has always fought with the health problems since the beginning of the history and found many remedies for the health problems. Through this Congress, we aimed to remember the traditional treatment methods and lay down the possible contributions of them to the modern medicine and human health. On the occasion of this organization, it would be wrong to divide the medicine into two categories as traditional and modern since both of them are the heritage of the humankind. And the science is the basic method to use such heritage for the sake of the human beings. Without doubt, when we conduct scientific examination on the historical heritage of the humankind, it would be possible to come across with many components that may contribute and enhance the human health. Therefore we really care about this Congress. We believe that the efforts initiated with this Congress to remember our traditional heritage and offer it to the disposal of the science will continue.”
Following the opening remarks, the award ceremony started. Health Minister Dr. Demircan presented to the First Lady H.E. Emine Erdoğan a panting of Life Tree bearing the logo of the Congress.
Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin Traditional and Complementary Medicine Science Award was presented to Prof. Dr. Erdem Yeşilada, Head of Pharmacognosis and Phytotherapy Department of the Pharmacy School at Yeditepe University.
Süheyl Ünver Traditional and Complementary Medicine Young Researcher Award was presented to Dr. Muhammed İkbal Alp, Research Associate at the Medipol University, and Traditional and Complementary Medicine Media Award was presented to Assoc. Prof. Halit Yerebakan, Research Associate at Yeditepe University.
Avicenna Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin.
