Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Şuayip Birinci attended the HIMSS 19 event organized in Orlando, USA on 11-15 February 2019.
Ministry of Health signed the new five-year cooperation agreement with HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) providing accreditation on international scale about the use of IT at hospitals with an aim to create and spread “digital” and “paperless” hospital concept.
The Protocol was signed by Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Şuayip Birinci and HIMSS CEO Harold Wolf III. Representatives from the Ministry of Health and HIMSS were also present during the signing ceremony.
The agreement aims to continue spreading the relevant applications among the state hospitals of Turkey. It is also targeted to carry all relevant hospital services in digital environment without the use of paper, ensure access to medical data independent from time and place and accelerate and increase quality of diagnosis and treatment services.
Within the framework of the first protocol signed in 2013, many public hospitals were evaluated through EMRAM (Electronic Medical Record Adaption Model) survey developed by HIMMS and measuring adoption of the digital applications based on patient safety.
Turkey made great progress in digitalization. The project started in 2013 with only 1 hospital certified with HIMSS EMRAM Level 6 and the number of hospitals with HIMSS EMRAM Level 6 certification reached 162 in 2018, making Turkey the country with the highest number of hospitals holding Level 6 certificate in Europe.
Level 7 certificate including adoption of the Level 6 process and spread of the relevant applications throughout the hospital is held by 7 hospitals in Europe, two of which are located in Turkey. Tire State Hospital and Yozgat City Hospital hot the Level 7 certificate respectively in 2016 and 2018.
Ministry of Health of Turkey has been making great efforts to unite the health with technology by making use of many digital health apps. Developing new technologies on the one hand, the Ministry is also focused on digitalization of all hospitals countrywide.
Furthermore, projects of the Ministry of Health, importance of obtaining EMRAM Level 6 and 7 certificates by the hospitals affiliated to the Ministry and the related success stories were shared with the participants of the organization. Presentations were made about e-Pulse Personal Health System, Telemedicine System and digitalization process of the hospitals, and the participant Turkish companies found the opportunity to promote their health information systems.
