Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca attended the opening ceremony of the 66th session of the Turkish National Pediatrics Congress held in the city of Girne, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
In his speech, Minister Koca stated that he was happy to attend the congress hosted by the TRNC, which was established 39 years ago by the late President Rauf Raif Denktaş and his friends.
“As Turkey, we are determined to provide all possible support in the field of health, as in other fields, to our brothers in different geographies. In this regard, TRNC is the apple of our eye. After the opening of two emergency hospitals in Istanbul at the end of 2020, the heaviest period of the Covid-19 epidemic, we initiated construction of the 3rd emergency hospital here. The 100-bed Nicosia Emergency Hospital was completed and put into service in a short time by the Turkish Ministry of Health.”
Explaining that Turkey has shown great and lasting successes in health since the beginning of the 2000s, Koca stated that they continue to be proud of Turkey's health system thanks to the infrastructure investments and qualified health workers despite the problems caused by the pandemic and the global economic situation.
“We have not neglected any of our citizens in health care. The society, on the other hand, saw the efforts of healthcare professionals and how they worked to overcome the crisis and applauded this effort wholeheartedly. We have never stopped our efforts to improve the working environment of health personnel and to ensure work peace in every sense. It is our indispensable goal to create an environment where the patient and the physician feel safe. With the leadership and approval of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we implemented the White Reform step by step. Actual violence in health was included in the catalog crimes, and the penalties were aggravated” said Minister Koca.
In his speech, Dr. Koca pointed out standing qualities of the National Pediatrics Association, which has been organizing congress for many years by carrying its scientific quality forward, where the basic issues, problems and current developments related to child health and diseases are discussed. Dr Koca concluded his speech by underlining that “We are together with the health community. I wish the National Pediatrics Congress of Türkiye to be successful and bring blessings to our healthcare community, our colleagues, and especially to our beloved children, who are the guarantee of our future.”
