Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Emine Alp Meşe attended the official launch of the “4th National Field Epidemiology Conference” and “Turkey Health Safety Project”
Financed by the European Union (EU) and World Health Organization (WHO), 4th National Field Epidemiology Conference” and “Turkey Health Safety Project” took place in Ankara, on occasion of which Deputy Minister Prof. Meşe delivered opening speech, saying that important developments have occurred in the field of health, which is also reflected to health outcomes.
“Opposite the new global-scale health problems, we need qualified labor force, which paved the way for initiation of the Field Epidemiology Certified Training Program in 2012.
This program aims to improve qualifications and skills of the healthcare professionals about the field epidemiology, and raise field epidemiologist. The program was primarily designed to conduct reliable scientific examinations to protect and improve the health level of the people, and detect and eradicate the health threats, and recommend regulations based on the findings. Moreover, the applications will be made in 2020 to obtain international accreditation of the program.
Organized annually, the National Field Epidemiology Conference was firstly held on 6-7 February 2013, secondly on 15-17 April 2014, thirdly on 25-26 May 2015, and now the fourth session also hosts the official launch meeting of the Turkey Health Safety Project financed under IPA-2 of EU.
Representatives of WHO, Training Program in Epidemiology and Public Health Network (TEPHINET), European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), EU Delegation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and EMPHNET attends the Conference. Such large-scale participation will enable to receive support ıf the specialized organizations about international accreditation of the national program, share concurrently outcomes of the theoretical and practical trainings with the provincial health directors and academic circles, develop the scientific approach, and thus raise awareness on national level,” added Prof. Alp Meşe.
Heads of public health departments of the provincial health directorates and head of public health departments of the faculties of medicine and epidemiologists working in the area of field epidemiology also took part in the program.
