Deputy Minister of Health Mr. Muhammet Güven attended the Symposium on Diabetes and its Complications organized by Gaziantep Hasan Kalyoncu University within the scope of the 2nd Public Health Days.
In his inaugural speech, Deputy Minister stated that while the number of people over 20 years with diabetes was 415 million in 2015, it is estimated to go up to 642 million by 2040 with an increase of 55%.
Deputy Minister Güven also added that “according to decision support system of the Health Ministry, there were 35 thousands 163 people under the age of 15 and 5 million 538 thousands 885 people over 15 diagnosed with diabetes in 2017. Of them, 73 thousands 654 have diabetic complications”. However, Health Ministry aims and makes efforts to raise awareness and protect the future generations from diabetes and increase the quality of the diabetes care, as expressed by Mr. Güven.
Following the Symposium, Deputy Minister visited Abdülkadir Yüksel State Hospital, and Gaziantep City Hospital planned to be opened in 2020.
