Health Minister Dr. Koca: “This has to end”

Press Statement

“This has to end. One of the first agenda items of the new legislative session will be violence against healthcare professionals” said Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca.

On his way to G20 Health Ministerial Meeting to be held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, Dr. Fahrettin Koca made a statement at Esenboğa Airport concerning death of Psychiatrist Dr. Fikret Hacıosman as a result of a hateful attack at a private hospital in Istanbul and said that “I wish mercy from Allah for his soul and express my condolences for his relatives and health circle. I would like to reiterate that as the Health Ministry, we will ensure discussion of this issue of top priority during the legislative session in order to ensure delivery of the health services in a safe environment, deterrence from violence and punishment of the perpetrators severely.”

Health Minister said to have contacted with the chief physician of the hospital to receive information and called the wife of the deceased Ms. Mutlu Hacıosman to express his condolences; “I have just called Ms. Mutlu to express my condolences. I told her that we sympathize with them and feel their pain, and as the Ministry, we will make every effort to impose severe punishments for the perpetrator.” 

Dr. Koca also added “This has to end. One of the first agenda items of the new legislative session will be violence against healthcare professionals. We keep working in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Justice.

Following the statement, Health Minister Dr. Fahrettin Koca headed to Mar del Plata, Argentina to attend G20 Health Ministerial Meeting.
