14 February 2022

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the mass opening ceremony of Aksu Training and Research Hospital, Natural Gas Distribution Line Infrastructure Project and other projects completed in Giresun. The opening ceremony was also attended by Minister Koca.

Erdogan stated that it was not possible for them to forget the day of the disaster, wished mercy from Allah and patience to those who lost their lives.

Erdoğan continued:“It was another disaster, but during the same time, we experienced many other disasters in Rize, Artvin, Kastamonu, Bartın and Bozkurt, and in Mugla and Antalya. This year has been a year of disasters for us. Where all these disasters took place, ministries have worked day and night. I am also happy to see the beauties of Dereli, we are lucky to keep the promise we made to our people."

"Rest assured, the worst is in the past"

At the opening ceremony, Minister Koca noted that they had experienced two difficult years responding to the pandemic.

Koca continued:"We lifted the restrictions in the most reasonable time. We removed all restrictions, except for personal protection measures and vaccination. As soon as we saw that the disease was reducing its effect, we updated our practices, including quarantine and screening tests. The pandemic is out of our agenda, never to return. The rules that surround the whole world are now becoming history. This, of course, does not mean that we will act imprudently. The measures have now become personal.

Expressing gratitude for the attention paid to TURKOVAC, Koca said: “We have our own power now thanks to TURKOVAC. We have developed an effective and safe vaccine fulfilling all scientific requirements. Believe in the strength of our country, the achievements of our scientists, be proud of them."

Koca continued:"Please do not fear rising case numbers because the disease is not as strong as it used to be. Rest assured, the worst is in the past.

Health investments in Giresun

Koca noted that President Erdoğan has given them the instruction to develop Giresun's health infrastructure and that they have fulfilled their duty.

Noting that the people of Giresun have been brought together with primary healthcare at 148 family practices and 6 integrated district hospitals, Koca added that hospital services are provided by 16 healthcare facilities, namely 9 state hospitals, 1 physical therapy centers, 2 training and research hospitals, and 4 branch hospitals.

Stating that there are 760 doctors, 120 dentists, 2 thousand 71 nurses and midwives, 2 thousand 77 support personnel and more than 5 thousand medical personnel in Giresun, 384 of whom are specialists, Koca made the following assessment:“The Giresun Training and Research Hospital, the opening of which was postponed due to the pandemic, has taken an important role in meeting the demand for healthcare of the people of Giresun with its robust health infrastructure and staff. The 400-bed hospital houses 78 intensive care units, 16 operating rooms, 108 outpatient clinics, 34 dialysis units, a 4-bed burn center, a cardiac surgery and angiography center and an oncology diagnostic center over 76 thousand square meters."
