The first meeting of the National Committee of Zoonotic Diseases took place in Bilkent Campus of the Health Ministry under chairmanship of Deputy Health Minister Prof. Dr. Alp Meşe.
Having been established to fight with animal-borne diseases, the National Committee of Zoonotic Diseases has been restructured under guidance of the Ministries of Health and Agriculture and Forestry.
A full-scale fight period has started against anthrax, Crimean-Congo hemorrhage fever, brucellosis and rabies and other zoonotic diseases.
Many institutions including Ministries of National Education, Environment and Urbanization, Transportation and Infrastructure, Internal Affairs, Culture and Tourism as well as Directorate of Religious Affairs and Radio and Television Supreme Council will start working in coordination in order to eliminate the current risks.
Referring to the protocol signed between the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to take measures of fight, protection and control against the zoonotic diseases – crucial for both human and animal health, Deputy Health Minister Prof. Dr. Alp Mese stated that the road map would be designated in line with that protocol.
“National Committee of Zoonotic Diseases was established for this purpose and will convene at least twice a year” added Prof. Dr. Alp Mese.
The map of zoonotic diseases will be prepared
The Committee will represent Turkey in international arena in the field of zoonotic diseases and develop national programs and projects for prevention and total elimination of the zoonotic diseases, which includes establishment of real-time systems to share cases of such diseases.
Concerning the Committee, Prof. Dr. Alp Mese stated that “Turkey’s map of zoonotic diseases will be prepared, with a focus on designation of losses caused by the zoonotic diseases. Any training and publishing activities will be carried out to increase awareness of the public about zoonotic diseases.”
Crimean-Congo Hemorrhage Fever Sub-committee, Rabies Sub-committee, Other Viral Infections Sub-committee, Brucellosis Sub-committee, Anthrax Sub-committee, Tularemia Sub-committee, Cyst Hydatid Sub-committee and Toxoplasmosis Sub-committee were established under the Turkish National Committee of Zoonotic Diseases in order to prevent, control and eliminate them.
